Manchester United have reportedly offered Harry Maguire to La Liga giants Barcelona as part of the club’s ongoing squad overhaul.
United are on the market for defensive reinforcements, with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite their main targets.
Talks between United and Bayern over De Ligt remain ongoing in an attempt to strike an agreement over the transfer fee. The Red Devils saw their opening bid for Branthwaite rejected and it remains to be seen whether a second improved offer is lodged.
Backline additions would almost certainly spell the end of the respective tenures of stars like Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are open to selling both Maguire and Lindelof in the event that suitable proposals arrive for them.
Lindelof has been linked to Turkish giants Fenerbahce while Maguire is thought to be on the radar of teams such as AC Milan and West Ham.
A fresh report has now claimed that United have “offered” Barcelona the chance to sign Maguire this summer.
The former club skipper is no longer “untouchable” and could be let go as part of Ten Hag’s “historic squad clean-up.” The Dutch coach recently extended his United contract until June 2026.
It’s understood that the 20-time English champions “hope to be able to get rid of his [Maguire’s] high salary this year, and have already begun to offer his services to various teams.” The Blaugrana are one of these outfits.
United are hopeful that “Joan Laporta and Deco will take advantage of the fact that they will only ask for around €20m for the experienced 31-year-old centre-back.”
However, as per the report, Barca gaffer Hansi Flick has issued an “immediate response” and “has categorically rejected the possibility of Maguire landing at the Camp Nou.”
In the 2023/24 season, Maguire made 31 appearances across all competitions. In that time, the England international helped United six clean sheets. He scored as many goals in the process.
