Competition: Scottish League Cup
Market: Ross County win
Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their League Cup romp in midweek, Ross County will travel to the Meadowbank Stadium on Wednesday night when they meet Edinburgh City.
Starting with the hosts, eventually left disappointed last season as they missed out on a top-four finish, Edinburgh certainly signed off the 2022/23 campaign in the midst of a real struggle. Including a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Airdrieonians on the final weekend, the Citizens remarkably recorded just a single win from any of their last nine straight League One appearances. Really gaining a reputation for their defensive issues, Alan Maybury’s men have also failed to find any kind of stability this summer. Including an action-packed 4-2 defeat against Hibernian in a friendly showdown earlier in the month, Edinburgh have also opened their League Cup adventure with a pair of worrying displays. Along with getting their Group D campaign underway with a 5-3 defeat at home against Kelty Hearts, Wednesday’s hosts were last seen over the weekend slumping to a 2-1 loss away at Stranraer. Already shipping seven goals in their back-to-back League Cup defeats, Maybury’s struggling squad should face a stern examination here.
As for the visitors, only just clinging to their Premiership status last season, Ross County are desperate to find some top-flight stability in 2023. While the Stages might shown their own extended defensive issues on either side of the summer break, Malky Mackay’s men have certainly opened their League Cup adventure with a real statement of intent. Last seen over the weekend putting in another eye-catching display as they clinched a 2-1 victory at home against Morton, the one-time Watford boss will be smelling the chance for his side to make another Group D marker in midweek. Getting their League Cup campaign underway with a stellar 5-1 win away at Stranraer, Ross County have won five of their previous six appearances across all formats continuing on from last season. Notching seven strikes in their back-to-back Group D victories and certainly enjoying what has been a summer purple patch, Mackay’s men will be confident of punching their knockout stage ticket. Given the recent gulf in class between Wednesday’s opponents, we are backing an away victory here.
